COMPUTER
LABORATORY
To support the
computational needs of the department, the College maintains a Computer
Laboratory in room 145 of the Engineering Building. The laboratory
includes the following hardware and software:
-
33
computers with Pentium 1.0 or 1.1 GHZ processors. The computers
contain 512 MB of SDRAM, 20 GB hard drives, 20/48x CD-ROM drives,
and 19 inch monitors. All the computers are running the Windows 2000
operating system.
-
All
computers are networked, and are T1 connected to the Internet.
Students have individual accounts on the network.
-
There
is a networked HP4500 color printer and a networked HP2100 B&W
printer.
-
The
Instructor's computer is connected to a high resolution projector
that allows students to observe how software is used.
-
The
main engineering file server is a Dell PowerEdge 4400 with two 730
MHz processors, 100GB of hard drive space and 1 GB of memory.
-
The
engineering web server is a Compaq Proliant 5000 file server with
two Pentium Pro 200 MHz processors, 10 GB of hard drive space and
512 MB of memory.
-
Licensed
software available in the lab includes
- Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel & Powerpoint)
- Mathcad
2001
- Matlab
- Solid Edge
- Bob-CAD/CAM
- ALGOR
- Microsoft
Visual Basic and C++
- P-Spice
Mechanical
engineering students make extensive use of modern computational tools,
such as Solid Edge for CAD, ALGOR for Finite Element Analysis, Mathcad
for computational analysis, C++ for programming and Microsoft Excel for
data analysis.
